A stroll beside Chew Valley Lake

Saturday was glorious. The sun was shining and we had a whole weekend ahead of us. The only appointment? Lunch at The Ethicurean– my birthday treat from Alex.

Since the restaurant was about an hour’s drive away, we set off early and parked up at Chew Valley Lake, to make the most of the fantastic weather.

Isn’t it lovely?

Before we embarked on our leisurely stroll, we popped into Salt & Malt for a cup of tea.

The brainchild of the chap behind the famous Pony & Trap in Chew Magna, this place is best known for its delicious fish and chips (which we aim to come back and try at some point).

Fully sated, we headed back into the sunshine and spent an hour or so walking beside the lake.

It was really quiet – we hardly saw anyone else. Apart from this handsome chap.

We could have walked there for hours – it was so peaceful.

But a very special lunch reservation was calling. So we hopped in the car and drove back along Somerset’s country lanes until we reached our lunch destination.

Which I’ll talk about in another post – it deserves one of its own.
