After an amazing wedding, it’s time for the honeymoon! The destination? Where else but our favourite city in the world (and much-missed old stomping ground), London.
After a slightly longer train journey than usual (thanks First Great Western), we arrived at Paddington and Alex paid a dear friend a quick visit.
We headed straight for our hotel, the Ampersand in South Kensington. As you can see, Alex is pretty happy with the room.
We didn’t hang around for long though. We had some delicious food to consume. As much as we love Bath and Bristol, the food is miles away from London chow.
We made a beeline for an old favourite.
In our humble opinion, Patty & Bun serves London’s best burgers AND London’s best chicken wings. So, of course, we ordered both.
And some obligitory fries, complete with rosemary salt.
It was as good as we remembered, and the perfect gastronomical welcome back to London.
Afterwards, we mooched up Marylebone High Street, stopping off to pick up some sweet treats, which we ate in Regents Park.
The best eclairs EVER. They’re not cheap, but they’re seriously delicious.
We walked them off in Regent Park’s best kept secret. A deserted garden tucked away on the edge of the Inner Circle.
When we got back to our hotel, we found another delicious surprise waiting for us.
We spent a bit of time relaxing in our room (or napping, in Alex’s case) and then headed out to Holland Park, and the Kyoto Garden.
After a lovely stroll, it was time for more food.
We headed underground and had our first taste of London’s cocktails.
And then tucked into some more tasty grub. Starting with smoky padron peppers and deep fried mac ‘n’ cheese balls.
Followed by crispy fried chicken and a refreshing heritage tomato salad.
Despite still being quite full from lunch, the food was amazing.
London, you’re as awesome – and tasty – as we remember. We can’t wait to continue the gastronomic tour tomorrow.
