Earlier this week, I took a trip to my old home city with my Mum and my sister, Katie. It was originally meant to be a ‘wedding dress shopping trip’. Those words filled me with horror (I’m not a huge clothes shopping fan), so I sneakily bought my dress online, freeing up our trip to London for more interesting things.
We had an amazing time – here are a few snippets from our visit.
The wonderful buildings of Bloomsbury, just around the corner from our hotel.
A delicious brunch at The Riding House Cafe – an old favourite of mine. Plus, I got my all time fave dish – avocado eggs benedict. With extra bacon. Because, holidays.
Fancy cocktails at Through the Looking Glass. Alex wrote a detailed blog post about this place a while back. Mum flirted with the waiter and got free drinks, so she was pleased.
Deep-fried oysters at The Merchants Tavern. Another London favourite.
Equally delicious desserts. The black pepper ice cream was a talking point. I loved it, but some didn’t. The parfait went down a storm.
A pre-shopping breakfast at Gail’s Bakery. (Yes, we did go shopping. I bought my wedding shoes and made a fool of myself in the Quite Posh Shop.)
Post-shopping afternoon tea (and a much-needed sit down) at the Duke’s Hotel. Delicious and decadent, although less so when I found myself covered in miniature lemon meringue pie. Also, hot doughnuts should be a staple in every afternoon tea offering.
A wholesome breakfast at Nude Espresso. Katie was less wholesome and had a sausage sandwich, which I didn’t photograph in order to preserve her dignity.
A trip to Hogwarts. I’ve written about this place extensively before, and it was no less magical the second time around. As you can see from the following photos, a grand old time was had by all. Plus, we were first through the door on a Tuesday, so it was wonderfully quiet.
