Alex and I are big fans of weekend breakfast. We often treat ourselves to a breakfast/brunch at the weekend, and more often than not, we go to Bath favourite Same Same But Different. They do an excellent full English and it’s great value.
But recently, we decided to branch out a little and try The Porter.
It’s a place I’ve always been intrigued by – it seems to do everything under one roof. According to its website, it has a wine vault, a cocktail lounge, and a restaurant.
When we arrived it was pretty busy. Besides the wine vault, the cocktail lounge, and the restaurant, there are also apartments for visitors to stay in. So naturally, people who stay in the apartments pop downstairs for breakfast. Luckily, we managed to get a table for 2.
The menu is great, lots to choose from. There’s also a tempting table full of treats, which caught our eye. So we started virtuously by sharing a bowl of fresh fruit salad, which came swimming in a delicious lemon and rosewater syrup.
There’s nothing nicer than fresh fruit on a (fairly) sunny day. But fruit alone does not a hearty weekend breakfast make.
For Alex, a full English is the true test of any breakfast establishment. And The Porter didn’t disappoint. He particularly enjoyed the sausage.
While I was lured by the pancakes, which came with a hefty jug of blueberry maple syrup. They were light and fluffy and DIVINE.
The Porter has a great vibe and we’re keen to explore more of its facets. They take online bookings (yay) so it’s well worth booking a table if you want breakfast here – they’re popular!
