This Bank Holiday Monday, we found ourselves in the lovely Bristol for the day. I’d seen The Urban Standard featured in Shortlist Magazine recently and thought it sounded right up our street.
They’re open all day and serve brunch alongside their usual food menu at the weekends. They also do a fine selection of cocktails, although we didn’t partake, it being lunchtime and all. However, Alex thought it was the perfect time of day to try an Icelandic White Ale (he liked the logo), which turned out to be delicious.
We were spoiled for choice with the food menu, but we were both pretty hungry so skipped the salads and went for something substantial.
I had a burger, with added pulled pork and Swiss cheese. It was delicious, messy and greasy. Perfect. It came with some really tasty coleslaw (no mayo in sight) and some perfectly crispy fries.
Alex made an excellent choice with the truffled mac ‘n’ cheese (which he added pulled pork to, obviously). It was rib-stickingly delicious and kept him full for the rest of the day.
I’d love to go back to try more of the menu (and the cocktails). Definitely one to add to the ‘places to eat whilst in Bristol’ list.
