The title of this post makes it sound as though we went to some kind of fitness class. Nothing could be further from the truth. We wandered to Marylebone in search of sustenance and naturally gravitated towards James St (home of the infamous Patty & Bun, which we’ve frequented before and LOVED).
Despite our love for P&B, the queue was pretty long. Hunger won out over integrity so we plumped for lunch at recently opened Giraffe Burgers & Cocktails. Although it’s a chain, we’re long-standing fans of Giraffe (apart from the one in Westfield Stratford, never go there) so we thought we’d give it a try.
The place was busy and buzzing – we took a seat at the bar and ordered hard shakes. I went for a Chocolate Monkey (banana, chocolate sauce, Crème de Cacao and vodka) and Alex couldn’t resist the Double Stuffed (Oreos with Baileys, vodka and Kahlua). As you can see, it was delivered with a whole Oreo floating on top. Both were bloody delicious, so much so that I basically inhaled mine before I’d even ordered my food (I was hungry, remember?).
Speaking of food, we ordered a veritable feast. I had a Piggy Melt – a sandwich consisting of pulled pork (my fave), a deliciously rare beef patty, onions, smoked cheddar, pickle and dijon mustard mayo. That’s a lot of yumminess to squeeze into one sandwich. Alex had ‘The Matador’ (a burger consisting of pulled pork, chorizo, manchego, red pepper and pimento tapenade). It was equally delicious.
As if we needed anything else, we also ordered a side of sweet potato fries (healthy, right?) and a wheel of mac n cheese (not so healthy). Both were amazing and pushed us over the edge into worryingly full.
It’s no Meat Liquor or Patty & Bun, but Giraffe Burgers and Cocktails served up a bloody excellent lunch, all the while pushing us one step closer to clinical obesity. Exactly what we were looking for.
